       LOT CONTROL

v Lot Control allow us to track the inventory in our warehouse and group items based on expiration date, batch, and/or date of entry or exit from the warehouse.

Lot has two types of Uniqueness

Ø None - If it is None, we can't use same Lot number in the same Organization.

Ø Across - If it is Across, we can't use same Lot number in the entire Operating unit.

Lot can be defined at three levels

Ø At Organization level

Ø At Item level

Ø User defined

Generation: At Organization level

To setup Lot control go to

Inventory -> Setup -> Organization -> Parameters

 Here go to Revision, Lot, Serial and LPN tab then select Uniqueness and Generation and save

If you select generation as at org level then it asks for the Prefix to enter then it will become the prefix for the entire Organization

Now we can create an item

NAV-> inventory responsibility-> item-> Master item

Give the lot control: Full control and assign the child org and save the screen

Now let’s perform the Transaction

NAV-> Transactions-> Miscellaneous Transaction

Enter the Transaction type and source and click on the Transaction Lines

Give the details as shown below

Now we need to click on the generate Lot tab and we get the lot number and give the quantity how much we want for that lot number and click on Done tab

Then SAVE THE SCREEN

Now we need to check the on-hand quantity

NAV-> on hand quantity-> on hand quantity

Enable the Detailed check box and give the item then click on the FIND tab

Generation: At Item Level

To setup Lot control go to

Inventory -> Setup -> Organization -> Parameters

 Here go to Revision, Lot, Serial and LPN tab then select Uniqueness and Generation and save

If we select generation as at item level then the Prefix field will grade out. Now we are Control at Item Level

Now we can create an Item

NAV-> Item-> Master Item

In inventory tab when we give Lot control as Full control, then we can see that starting Prefix and starting Number field becomes Mandatory

 Then we can give the Lot Expiration control Shelf-life days (self-life days is nothing but an expiration of lot)

We need generate Lot control at item Level only

Now let’s perform the Transaction

NAV-> Transaction-> miscellaneous Transaction

And give the details as shown below and click on the Transaction Line

Give the details as shown below and click on the Lot/serial tab

Now we need to click on the generate Lot tab and we get the lot number and give the quantity how much we want for that lot number and click on Done tab

Then SAVE THE SCREEN

Now we can check the on hand quantity

NAV-> on hand quantity-> on hand quantity

Generation: At User define

 To setup Lot control go to

Inventory -> Setup -> Organization -> Parameters

 Here go to Revision, Lot, Serial and LPN tab then select Uniqueness and Generation and save

 If you select generation as User define then the Prefix field will grade out. Now we are Control at Item Level

 When it is User Define it has Expiration Date, they are three types we can see them in Item Screen

Ø None- No Control

Ø Self-Life days - System automatically generates Expiration dates

Ø User define - Manually we define Expiration dates

Now we can create three items with different Lot Expiration

NAV->item-> Master items

 when Control is Self Life days then the self life days Field become Mandatory save the item and assign to the Child Org

when Control is User Define then the manually, we need to enter the self life days then save the item and assign to the Child Org

when Control is No Control then we no need to enter the self life days, then save the item and assign to the Child Org

Now let’s perform the Transaction

Give the details as show below and click on the Transaction Lines tab

And give the details as shown below and click on the Lot/Serial tab

For Self life days system automatically generates the Expiration Date

For user define we need to generate the Expiration Date manually

when Control is No Control then we no need to enter the self life days, then save the item and assign to the Child Org

We are get an Error. Because we  used the same lot number to another item( never give the same lot number to another item)

Now we need to check the on-hand quantity

NAV-> on hand quantity-> on hand quantity
